About Tiki Road Trip 2:
Tiki Road Trip by James Teitelbaum was released in 2003 to universal acclaim among the Tiki, roadside attraction, mid century modern, Exotica, vintage/retro, and Polynesian Pop communities. This guidebook to the whens and wheres of all things Tiki sent thousands of people on six continents to hundreds of destinations, where they all gleefully imbibed exotic rum drinks, chowed down on sumptuous feasts, reveled in (pop) cultural history, worshipped at the altar of Tiki, realexed to soothing sounds, and attempted contact with the opposite sex (sometimes all of these things at once).
Inevitably, the information contained in the book fell a bit out of date over the next four years, and a great sadness was heard around the globe.
But there is hope!
Yes, every four years we have an olympics, a presidential election, and a Tiki Road Trip.
In June of 2007, four years (and two months) after the debut of Tiki Road Trip, Santa Monica Press will bring you Tiki Road Trip: revised and expanded edition.
What's new in Tiki Road Trip 2:
Your world-wide guide to Polynesian Pop!
Full update to the entire text, that moves recently closed places to the closed section, adds newly opened places, and offers more historical information on classic places. Almost every entry has been revised; most have been completely re-written.
The 2003 version of Tiki Road Trip paid homage to the classic Tiki bars. The new version still includes these locations, of course, but spotlights the new places, particularly the several dozen that have opened in the past four years. Where the 2003 edition was about the history of Tiki, the 2007 edition will lean towards the future of Tiki.
More photos than before, with high quality room shots of new and classic locations, as well as graphics such as menus, postcards, matchbooks, and artifacts such as Tiki mugs and carvings.
New design that makes it easier to find what you're looking for, and makes the divsion between existing places and closed places more clearly defined.
Expanded drink recipes section, Hawaiian vocabulary, and glossary.
A few pesky factual errors and typos from the prior edition have been corrected.
Larger International section, particularly spotlighting the booming Spain, England, and Germany Tiki scenes. Much larger Hawai'i section as well.
Shag has modified his cover art: play "spot-the-difference"!
Eighty (80) pages longer; same price as the 2003 edition! What a deal!
Tiki Road Trip 2 is available for pre-order at:

Prolusion re-launch
Hi everyone
In anticipating the pair of new projects being developed by Left Orbit Temple, we have decided to do a major re-launch of Prolusion.
The word Prolusion means (according to Webster's New World Dictionary - 1913 edition):
"A trial before the principal performance; a prelude; an introductory essay or exercise."
We titled the first Left Orbit Temple release Prolusion because it was a bit of en experiment.
We wanted to test the waters and see if there would be a response to the project before we continued.
We didn't know if people would be interested in looking at the art galleries, or if a hybrid project featuring music and art - an arts magazine on a disc, if you will - is something that music fans would be interested in experiencing.
So far the response has been great.
We are pleased that music neither rockin' nor danceable - and that is admittedly a bit creepy (deliciously so, we hope!) - has been greeted with so much enthusiasm.
The Left Orbit Temple project WILL continue... but between 'real life' rearing it's ugly head, and a haitus so that James could write a few books, there have been some delays.
So here were are half way through 2006, and in anticipation of the two new projects that have been lining themselves up over the past few years, it's time to reaquaint people with Left Orbit Temple, or introduce to the project all of the people who may have missed the inital release of Prolusion.
Our major re-launch of the project is currently underway - these are exciting times!
We hope you enjoy all aspects of Left Orbit Temple, and we look forward to meeting new collaborators.

New Releases
Left Orbit Temple has two new projects in the works.
Because of an unintended haitus after the initial release of Prolusion (the re-launch of Prolusion is happening right now), a little bit of a backlog of material has been building up.
The second Left Orbit Temple release will follow the same format as Prolusion, with about 50 to 60 minutes of music, and 10 to 12 artists on the EnhancedCD portion of the disc. We'll also be releasein the music only (without the multimedia gallery compnent) for MP3 download.
Everything about the new project is ramped up two notches: the quality of the presentation of the art and the user interface, the quality of the music production, and the packaging are all being taken to the next level. The musical concepts and themes have been refined and tightened up - it is to be the most challenging and cohesive work to date.
The music is going well:
James has created statrting points for 8 new songs.
There will also be a re-working of an older song, and the traditional cover song (TBA).
Erin Mosher has laid down her vocal tracks, and they sound great.
Her voice has come a long way in the short time since the release of Prolusion, and these new tracks are stunning.
Derek Geisser is so busy with his art gallery, his fashion design, and his own music that it's bee hard to pull him into the studio to do his vocal tracks. We expect this to finally happen in the coming weeks.
After that, an army of guest musicians will come in to fill in the remaining spaces.
We have contacted many artists about making their contributions, and are always looking for more.
We expect LOT II (title TBA) to be released in late 2004.
The other project is a little bit of a departure from the standard Left Orbit Temple format.
James has been keeping journals from his exhasutive road trips and concert tours for 13 years now.
"The Spaces Between" will consist of spoken word performances by James (as opposed to the usual singing from Derek and Erin on the other LOT releases) over ambient soundscapes, all conjuring images of the dark little corners of North America not normally seen by the casual traveller.
It is to be determined whether or not this release will contain the usual art gallery on the Enhanced CD portion; it is likely though.

Meg Lee Chin
A couple of people have asked about the rumors that Meg Lee Chin did some recording with Left Orbit Temple.
She did, in fact do a session with LOT while James was in London, UK recording Prolusion at Star Track studios (in Wapping).
Unfortunately, she was still under contract to Invisible Records at the time, so Invisible's founder (one Mr. Atkins) had a letter sent to LOT Central requesting (errr... insisting) that Meg's performance not be used.
Sure, it makes sense that since James and Meg were in Pigface "Team '94" together, performed 45 gigs together, and remain friends to this day, that Meg should have been allowed to lend her voice to Left Orbit Temple, and it also makes sense that having her name all over the project would do nothing but help the sales of her material for Invisible... but Mr. A say: "no way". So go complain to him.
The track in question, "Mirbat" is on the CD Prolusion, with someone else performing the parts that Meg helped come up with.
Meg's vocal takes remain in our archive, sitting so temptingly on a hard disk...
A remix of "Mirbat" is actually planned for future release, and should Mr. Atkins have a change of heart and/or marketing strategy, you can be sure we'll restore Meg's performance to the track in time for the release of the remix.
